The Law of Contract has evolved over 133 years based on decisions rendered by the Supreme Court and various High Courts. Right from the stage of formation of contract to implementation to conclusion thereof, the Act encompasses all situations and provides remedies in case there is any breach. Judicial pronouncements over the years have endeavoured to protect the individual from the might of the State in contractual matters. Supreme Court of India has upheld the principles of sanctity of contract in its decisions. Highlights of the book : The book contains exhaustive commentary on the Indian Contract Act, 1872 with Case Law references of the Supreme Court of India and various High Courts of the country on Formation of contracts; Principles for interpretation of contracts; Contracts, which are legal and enforceable; Performance of contracts; Enforcement of contracts; Frustration of contract; Novation of contract; Breach of contract and damages; Law of Guarantee; Law of Agency; Law of Bailment; Law relating to Government Contracts, Tenders and Blacklisting etc. The book contains more than 10,000 judicial decisions referred at appropriate palces of the sections. The book also places great emphasis on the law relating to Building and Engineering Contracts and the appendices include the general conditions of contract of reputed engineering organizations like CPWD, PWD, MES, as well as the latest and updated FIDIC conditions of contract.

The lucid manner in which the work has been compiled would benefit the Bench and Bar in equal measures. The treatise shall also be enlightening to students of law, who are the torchbearers of the nation and shall in due course of time be expected to achieve higher goals in life. The fact that even non-specialists can have a better understanding of the subject is a highlight of the treatise. In brief, the treatise, while being highly scholarly, is equally useful to the learner and the learned; to the judge and jurist; lawyers and students; and to Companies and citizens.
